The Tuvalu Chamber of Commerce has asked Siecap to come to their country and speak on ways that Siecap’s supply chain, infrastructure, and ESG knowledge can help island nations like Tuvalu survive in a rapidly evolving world. With Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albenese’s recent signing of a new migration and security treaty with Tuvalu, our ties with our Pacific family have never been stronger. The growth of decarbonisation projects, as well as the need to include carbon reporting into their own projects and the supporting supply chain, have become increasingly vital, and we’re excited to help this beautiful country meet new global standards.

Siecap CEO David Irvine was joined by Shawn Thompson, Managing Director of Siecap New Zealand, and senior Siecap advisor Murray MacColl, to discuss the future of Tuvalu’s infrastructure decarbonisation, waste management (including waste to energy), and the optimisation of carbon in the nation’s supply chain.

Tuvalu is a Polynesian island nation located approximately half-way between Australia and Hawaii, with a population of 11,000. Unlike many Polynesian islands, Tuvalu’s primary economic driver is not tourism: instead, more volatile sources like fishery licences provide the Tuvaluan Government with the majority of their wealth. Additionally, the country is extremely flat, with the highest point being 1.2m above sea level. These factors make Tuvalu particularly vulnerable to the threats of climate change, which can cause damage to their infrastructure from increased rates of extreme weather events, reduced fish counts from warming seas, and increased ocean levels impacting their growth potential.

This is the core focus of Siecap’s presentation – how decarbonisation in supply chains, procurement, and infrastructure can both safeguard the future of Tuvalu and help them save money while benefiting their citizens. Siecap’s expertise in design optimisation, material optimisation, and carbon management & accounting within the procurement and supply chain processes has helped to inform the Tuvalu Chamber of Commerce as to their updated Environmental Social Governance methodologies.

This trip is a fantastic opportunity to help a beautiful country learn and grow their ESG processes. We’d like to thank the Tuvalu Chamber of Commerce for inviting us to contribute.
