About 60 guests from companies such as BHP, Rio Tinto, Anglo American, Aurizon to name but a few attended an exclusive event with Tim Crossley, Partner at project management consulting and advisory firm Siecap, on 14 March in Brisbane.

‘A Conversation with Tim Crossley’ was hosted by Siecap and Women in Mining and Resources Queensland (WIMARQ). Interviewer David Frizzell from Team Guru questioned Tim on his career and his leadership journey in the mining sector.

Tim is an astute mining leader and with over 20 years’ experience in the industry. He is the former President and Chief Operating Officer at BHP Billiton’s West Australian Iron Ore business and previously held senior positions in BHP Billiton’s manganese and metallurgical coal divisions. Most recently, he was Executive Chairman of Trans-Tasman Resources, a development seabed mining and exploration company headquartered in Wellington, New Zealand.

Tim wholeheartedly endorsed gender diversity in the workplace, pointing out that it also brings diversity of thought to organisations, which is highly valuable. He said the industry has come a long way in terms of striving for gender parity.

Asked what advice he’d give to women at the early stages of their careers, Tim advocated always striving for excellence: “Be the best at what you do”.
